The Centre for Internet and Society is seeking a part-time consultant with a legal background in digital rights to join their research team (Remote/Bangalore)

The Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) is a non-profit organisation that undertakes interdisciplinary research on internet and digital technologies from policy and academic perspectives. The areas of focus include digital accessibility for persons with disabilities, access to knowledge, intellectual property rights, openness (including open data, free and open source software, open standards, open access, open educational resources, and open video), internet governance, telecommunication reform, digital privacy, and cyber-security. The research at CIS seeks to understand the reconfiguration of social processes and structures through the internet and digital media technologies, and vice versa.

About the role:
As a consultant, the individual is expected to provide legal and practical knowledge on laws and procedures related to digital rights, such as internet shutdowns, content takedown and surveillance, and write in an accessible manner about related legal and constitutional questions for ongoing guidebooks at CIS.

Applicants with a strong background in litigation and legal advocacy around digital rights to join as a short-term consultant starting February 2023 and aid in ongoing research about digital rights. ⁠

1st-7th February: Shortlisting, and interviews

Expected Start Date: 8th February or mutually preferable date in the same week.
